TRSD School Board Meeting 5/07/09
Do I have to say, “Must see?” This is the one where the new calendar is rescinded. Neither Danville rep made the meeting. Good thing because both tend to rubber stamp Mr. La Salle’s initiatives and the vote to rescind was 3-2 for with one abstention. A tie is a loss, so either voting for would have killed the initiative to rethink the calendar.
Also on topic was privacy. The School Board was impatient with a parent who had had personal information shared by the district. Ironically, the Chair chastened the victim for revealing the identity of the parties involved. I would have expected a School Board that sealed the minutes of a nonpublic session for 99 years to protect the reputation of a pedophile to have been more sympathetic to a parent…what was I thinking…

Weird how Mr. LaSalle suggests that voc tech kids would end up taking off both sets of vacations if TRSD vacations don’t coincide with Salem or Pinkerton’s. Does he really think kids can take off multiple weeks from both schools they attend and have no issues with grades??? Perhaps he just has low expectations for these kids.

Bear in mind that he and the school board approved a calendar in which makeup days were scheduled in July. That has waiver written all over it. I would not have spend my hard earned cash on buttons and bumper stickers if I believed keeping kids in class was a priority at SAU 55.

Today, May 15, the Eagle trib is reporting this meeting as though it was held yesterday. Then they misstate the results of the vote, saying we’re back on a Feb + Apr vacation schedule. Unbelieveable.
