Credit Cards You Can Count On
We all know that financing your life at 18% is a bad idea, but a credit card can be a useful financial tool. I’ve used 0% transfers to finance Christmas for up to 18 months and Chase cards to save $150 on my PS3 and $150 on my first $300 worth of games and peripherals. I got 1% back on my college education and 5% back on gas when it was $4/gallon. As long as you make payments on time, these deals can work out.
My favorite credit cards save me money each month. I’ve had a Kohls card since they opened the Plaistow store. Kohls routinely stacks 30% discounts and free shipping on top of their sale prices. If you make a mistake, they take the returns at the store.
My favorite card is Discover. I’ve had this one for more than 20 years. You get 1% back on all purchases and as much as 5% back on promotions and if you start shopping from their partners web page. You can get your cash back as cash or use it to purchase gift cards from partners that can be worth twice as much. I get Staples gift cards at $25 for $20 — essentially 20% off every thing I buy. Best part about Discover is that they value your business. I once forgot to send in a payment of $4000. Next month I got a bill that included a hefty finance charge. When I called for mercy, they forgave the interest because I was a valued customer.
Chase cards are the worst. Use the promotion, pay the bill, and cancel the card. They make their money off fees, fines, and fraud.
