Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and I…

June 20, 2009 By: len Category: Re/|\ro No Comments →

…all cut our teeth on Atari computers. Steve Jobs quit his job at Atari to found Apple, Bill Gates was fired from Atari, and I played games on an Atari. Of the three, I’m probably the only one who still has a working Atari computer.

This article is a teaser for a future topic on DanvilleDelivery.com. I have a general interest in old computers and a passion for the Atari 8-bit computers. I have a few of these and still enjoy a quick game of River Raid or Bruce Lee from time to time.

I’m posting this here hoping someone with a box of Atari hardware will contact me before tossing it into a landfill. I’m not a collector, per se, but I have quite a collection. At the same time, I hope some former Friends of the Fugi will enjoy thumbing through an old issue of Antic or playing a once favorite game on an emulator.

If you are thinking about resurrecting an Atari computer or buying one, I’d be glad to help.

Mosquito Control

Time to Dunk!

Sarah MacGregor, president of Dragon Mosquito Control, told the Eagle-Times the snow provided a thick blanket to insulate mosquito larvae, which might result in a higher mosquito populationRISE President Allen James agrees, “It takes an integrated approach where citizens and public officials work together to remove breeding grounds, monitor mosquito activity, use biological and chemical controls, and educate their friends and neighbors about proper prevention measures.”

Since the Board of Selectmen has only seen fit to sporadically sample wetlands for ‘bad’ mosquitos, it’s up to the rest of us to do the heavy lifting.   Be sure to empty standing water that accumulates on your property — drain your pool cover, cover barrels, and clear off toys.

This is the best time to deploy BTI dunks. One dunk per 100 square feet of standing water will prevent mosquitoes from breeding in your yard for up to thirty days. Mosquitos not born in April will not be making more mosquitoes in May. I dunk as soon as the water settles then every thirty days until Labor Day. $90 per year is short money to pay for outdoor comfort and safety.

BTI dunks are the same safe solution used by the town. The only difference is that you can destroy the pests while Dragon is studying them — more effective and less expensive. Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, and Agway all sell (or have sold) BTI dunks locally.

I buy my dunks on eBay. Here is a link to the seller I buy from every year. Five packs of 20 are less than $100 and last me an entire year.
